Research Summary

Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) face increased fracture risk, yet bone health in this population remains understudied. My research investigates differences in bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT), bone mineral density (BMD), and bone turnover markers between healthy post-pubertal youth and those with T1D. I hypothesize that adolescents with poorly controlled T1D (HbA1c >9%) have higher BMAT and lower BMD than those with well-controlled T1D (HbA1c <7%) or healthy peers, potentially linked to insulin deficiency and inflammation.

Career Goals

My long-term goal is to become a physician-scientist focused on improving quality of life and long-term outcomes for youth with chronic endocrine disorders, particularly type 1 diabetes (T1D). I aim to build a research program that investigates underexplored complications of T1D, such as bone health, while continuing to care for children and adolescents through clinical practice.
