    Education & Training

  • BSc - Imperial College London, United Kingdom
  • MBBS - University of London, United Kingdom
  • Integrated Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
Research Summary

My primary research project is investigating the use of freeform reversible embedding of suspended hydrogels (FRESH) 3D bioprinting in creating patient-specific Fontan conduits that are geometrically designed using computational fluid dynamics.  In addition, I will be utilizing human embryonic cardiomyocytes to create a pulsatilla 3D bio-printed Fontan conduit.

Career Goals

My overall career goal is to run an NIH-funded tissue engineering lab at an academic medical center while teaching and practicing as a congenital cardia surgeon.  My long-term research goal is to combine advanced 3D tissue engineering approaches, like bio printing, with image based computational modeling to investigate regenerative, functional tissue constructs for the treatment of congenital cardiothoracic disease.
